Client-Based Project
Automotive UX
Rapid Prototype
This client-based project with Stellantis was my first introduction into Automotive User Experience Design. My partner and I received constant feedback and I was able to aim for concept-focused solutions. We broke down the prompt, assessed competitors, and introduced three new concepts- Gamification, Adventure Mode, AR/VR Shield, to reduce overall range anxiety for EVs built in 2030. Ultimately, we presented to the Senior Design Panel at Stellantis and won ‘Best Presentation’ award 🥇

Problem statement
How might we reduce range anxiety for Stellantis Electric Vehicle users using AI or Machine Learning, effectively managing energy consumption and vehicle performance efficiency?

Vehicle selection
Why Jeep?
Why Jeep?
The Jeep brand embodies ruggedness, off-road spirit, and adventure. Its core audience, middle-aged drivers who love to drive like there’s no tomorrow, cares more about freedom and fun than fuel economy. That made Jeep an ideal testing ground for exploring how energy and excitement could coexist.

Core Insight
Energy consumption isn't a priority for many (unless the car was out of charge)
Energy consumption isn't a priority for many (unless the car was out of charge)
Post design team feedback, user research, and interviews, one insight became the anchor of our design direction. Driver's primary goals outweighed the energy consumption patterns or awareness. People cared whether, they reached their destination on time, picked up kids on time, trusted their vehicles blind with energy.

An intentional step away from traditional Stellantis blues
An intentional step away from traditional Stellantis blues
Traditionally, Stellantis’ EV interfaces rely heavily on blue tones, symbolizing energy and technology. We made a deliberate choice to move away from the blues, opting for muddy browns and yellows that show warmth, terrain, and adventure, true to Jeep’s off-road identity. Moreover, since the Avenger already allows customizable display palettes, this shift brought a fresh, brand-aligned identity that feels personal and modern.

We designed a multi-modal experience where users earn badges, share them, and collect tokens for every mile saved.
This human-centered system encourages:
Awareness of energy conservation
Community-driven participation
Passive persuasion toward sustainable driving habits

Adventure mode: More exciting and Energy conscious

The Jeep Avenger currently offers Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud, and Sand modes. To take it further, we introduced Adventure Mode, an extension of the HUD’s gamification layer that displays dynamic visuals of tire pressure, regenerative braking, and more.
Our priorities:
Balance engagement with safety (in line with NHTSA guidelines)
Maintain intuitive readability on rugged terrains
Integrate a virtual battery HUD that turns the Jeep into part of a larger energy ecosystem

Navigate to your favorite sport and earn Trail Points
Navigate to your favorite sport and earn Trail Points
Adventure Mode’s immersive nature introduced a challenge, how to keep drivers focused. We used AR/VR-assisted navigation for turn-by-turn guidance, subtly embedding Energy Trail Tokens into the peripheral display. This ensured:
A clear, unobstructed driving view
Peripheral awareness of progress
A playful reminder of sustainable habits
The experience feels rewarding, interactive, and safe, without compromising focus or major distractions
